To somebody who asked.
Why do we read the Bible, you asked. Is it just an old book of tall stories and morals??
I gave myself a mental punch in the stomach for not answering that question in time to defend my stand. So I thought about it all the way home…
My explanation:
The Bible is like…a textbook. In school, you read the textbook to know more about the syllabus, and to help you in preparation for tests. In life, we believe we need to read the Bible to know more about God and help us in preparation for the trials we face in life.
My MOM’s explanation:
If you have a boyfriend, you would want to know more about him to advance in the relationship right? Likewise, in our faith, it is about the relationship with God. We read the Bible to know more about Him, so we can also learn to be better people.
I don’t know if this convinces you of why we read the Bible, but I hope at least you respect this. Because after all, there are a LOT of things about other faiths I never fail to comprehend either.
I know you don’t mean to criticize, and I don’t hold it against you, but I just hope to say that what you think ridiculous may mean the world to others, so don’t judge. And just as how you told me not to take what you said into offense... hopefully this doesn't offend you in any way either.
Hmm, you don't even read my blog. Would you see this?
