found

You must be so glad I found you.
Today I was coming home with my mom and we found a hamster cage beside the dustbin at the lift landing. The cage was quite big and elaborate for one hamster, and at first glance it just seemed as though someone’s hamster just died and so they dumped the empty cage there.
But at closer inspection, I noticed a little fur ball curled up at the side of the cage. It’s a hamster!! I instantly realized. It was grey in colour. Next, I got quite disgusted because I thought, what if the hamster is dead, and the owner just didn’t bother disposing of the hamster properly, but just dump the whole cage, carcass and all? So I knocked on the cage lightly, but the hamster didn’t stir at all. Only finally after I knocked like 3 times, did I actually see it wriggle a little and curl itself back up. ITS ALIVE! ITS ALIVE; A LIVE HAMSTER. OH MY.
I tried persuading my mom to let us bring it back, I really did. “How can you just leave an animal in distress like that??” But my mom wouldn’t relent. She’s afraid it might die on her. She’s afraid she might have to end up cleaning its cage and blah. Seriously, though, I didn’t really WANT to keep the hamster as a PET. My first thought was just to SAVE it from dying of hunger or neglect or cold or abuse or being hunted down by Ginger of the 2nd floor.  But mom said no and that was that. So with a heavy heart I followed her into the lift, hoping that wouldn’t be the last time Hamham moved…
Back home I immediately called my personal emergency hotlines: Leanne and Yvonne. I knew Yvonne was probably at school or busy studying, so I texted Leanne first thing. Previously, she’s helped I think at least 2 dogs, one lost and on abandoned, find their homes/brought to SPCA, so I thought she should be able to handle a hamster. Fortunately she said she would take the hamster in and bring it to the SPCA on Friday. PHEW.
I hate that I can be so helpless. What if I wasn’t with my mom? I don’t think I’d have the guts to bring it home either. I don’t think I would have called any animal rescue groups for a hamster. BUT, at least the hamster is safe for now. Leanne is even thinking of just keeping it for good. Now, all we need is a name… Haha.
I know, it’s JUST a hamster. But a hamster is still a life right? It’s still cute right? It didn’t cause you any hurt or any harm right? Would you bear to just leave it to die in the dark? Once you know it’s there, defenseless, can you still turn a blind eye to it?

Updates on my very eventful life (sense the sarcasm?): Work is over! Switching focus to church camp preps and CCA! Watching Death Note (anime). Gripping plot but not exactly addicting. Get the difference? Hmm. But the guys are super smart. No shuai ge’s though. ):

work experience

Hello KP, this post is (kind of) dedicated to you.

So, this few days I have been busy at work at a dance theatre company, as part of my GCP. Along with 9 other schoolmates, I have been cooped up at a corner of town in a small, rather old building, cutting stuff, painting stuff and sewing stuff for the production’s props and costumes. Thank God I can sew (despite not attending home econs)! Even though it could get rather dull during the first 2 days, I felt quite at home, because those are things I quite like to do.
The third day was a little different. I honestly expected it to be worse. The 3 dance teachers kept on emphasizing that we had to be firm with the kids or they would climb all over us. In the end, I think apart from the first few classes with the youngest kids (3-5 years), my presence didn’t actually make a lot of difference. Our job was basically to be their ‘dressers’ and ‘lockers’ – helping them take out the right costumes and if need be, change them, and then keep their other set of clothes till they return to change back.
It was still quite interesting watching the varying comprehension/behavioural levels of the various age groups. The youngest ones wouldn’t even tell you their names clearly if you asked. We had to help them change into and out of their costumes (though I didn’t actually change anyone… I helped sort out the clothes and stuff). If you just left them alone, they would just stand and stone there. The slightly older ones still needed help with changing, but they were a little more inquisitive and active. One kept hopping and tiptoeing around. Another sat at the table where all the clothes were and poked around.  The yet slightly older, primary level ones were the loudest lot. They insisted on privacy and screamed or yelled whenever the curtain was opened. They complained that their costume was ‘hot’. The oldest, secondary level girls, were much like us. They just came in and changed themselves behind the curtains, and walked over to the studio themselves. All we did were ‘welcome’ them at the door.
(I don’t know why I had to tell you all that. Hmm…?)
Today is the fourth day of work! Thankfully work is only in the afternoons (for now), and we have a nice supervisor who wouldn’t let us go home too late (even when we self-impose OT to finish off work that’s needed by the next day, she insists we pack up and go home).  I wonder how we’d survive the 10am-10pm days though!

humouring intestines

In the mornings, my brain just needs some warming up. These were what I thought I read, to my amusement. Am I growing old??
“The President humoured them with the award.”
“Don’t look out only for your own intestines, but take an intestine in others’ too.”

LOL. Go figure.

Japanese overload: the paradox of holidays

When I took a nap this afternoon, it wasn’t because I was physically tired. I was, to put it the worst, emotionally and mentally drained. These days have been so full of thoughts and tasks, yet I often found myself with nothing else to do. So here's what I've been doing to keep myself from getting depression ><

Composing;
After watching VK, the starting and ending themes just kept taunting my mind – I couldn’t exactly remember how the tune went, yet I knew it was there, I knew I had heard it… I just couldn’t remember yet. So my brain created another tune to substitute all that, becoming the melody stuck in my head for the week. Now, that's what I call composing! (Not merely continuing a one and a half bar phrase, like in music exams.)

Kimonos;
What is with the overload of Japanese?? (on top of this and VK, the library book I recently borrowed involves a person going to Japan…) I have no idea what kimono dolls have to do with pretty much anything, but I’m helping my mom make these little paper beings for sale, for charity purposes. I don’t know how I agreed to this (of course, I really do) and I wonder what my mom would have done if I hadn’t agreed to help out. Mind you, I’m not even assisting her, I’m practically running a one-man factory, handling everything from cutting to colour choice to folding and gluing. The goal, 50 in a week. CIP points, please??? (and hey,when you buy handmade things in future, really, think of the hands that painstakingly made those, one by one!)

Vampire Knight;
I’ve finished watching the anime! And the worst thing is that it ended with sort of a cliffhanger so I had to appease myself with the manga after that. In actual fact, I decided I don’t really enjoy reading manga online because 1. It lacks the charm of Japanese voices, sound effects, dramatic timings… 2. The translator kept adding foot/sidenotes that had me tilting my head 90 degrees just to read that tiny print. Seriously, reading that way is probably harder than reading upside down. 3. The graphics confuse me! With the numerous flashbacks (within flashbacks, sometimes) and ‘offstage voices’ and changes of scenes so suddenly, I get lost easily. I never knew I was so bad at reading comics!!
The appeal of VK… of course the main reason was that it killed boredom. Thanks to perhaps A lit and IH, I found myself trying to deep deeper into the issues, instead of getting ‘polluted’ by the slightly warped morals the characters possess. In a sense, it keeps my mind active while off school. Plus, Zero (the cool, emo guy), Aidou (the funny and loyal, I think and hope, ‘sidekick’ of Zero’s rival in love), Chairman Cross Kaien (very comical and lame yet cool when he gets serious. Split personality much!) and even Rima (one of the random-er other vampires, I just think her Pocky biscuits are always making me hungry), make VK much more likable. xD

CO Practice;
… I feel like Zero without Yuuki! ALL my batchmates in my section are gone. ALL the sec 2s will be in Malacca tomorrow. So at least for tomorrow, it will be just the Sec 1s and me to face Mr Lee’s wrath (exaggeration) together. It’s so pathetic that he even let us off early yesterday, despite us starting late. Hmm, some other things also happened pertaining to CO, but all I can say is… the first assignment always gets messed up.

A different perspective on…

Love; to give that someone a purpose to live when he/she is feeling helpless and hopeless. Even if that purpose is for him/her to kill you eventually.

Loyalty; (e.g. politics and principles and people) If circumstances were to change drastically overnight, would your loyalties change? What are you loyal towards anyway? Do you follow what your family believes in, or what your friends/the majority believe in? What if they all conflicted?
(Yvonne, Tarzan taught me about loyalty too, you know.)

Life; Really, even a ‘tragic’ tale like VK has its comical, light hearted, silly moments. I’m sure your life doesn’t have blood-sucking beasts who turn your life upside down, so, don’t complain.

*Like my alliterations?
