This is crazy
incredible. We joined talentime not to win but just for fun. We never expected
anything even from the auditions, but we got in. It started out as a bunch of
people who wanted to make some music, take a break from the classical music that
we are used to playing for hmp, to play something more reflective of today’s
popular music. We don’t play drums, we don’t play electric guitars. We don’t do
amps, we don’t do vocals. But we used what we knew best, and we created
Salubrest!
It has been an amazing
time working with this bunch of kids. Practices could be frustrating at times
when we ran out of ideas or when we all had conflicting schedules and everyone
was coming and going. But other practices were also terribly hilarious and the things
you guys come up with are truly unthinkable.
In fact, all the
performers last night really had talent and a heart for performance. I was
privileged to hear so many people with their smooth and powerful vocals, slick
piano playing, pumping drumming skills… But what I realized made a winning
performance was not only talent, but the ability to engage the audience with
your talent, be it through humour, wit, originality, or to sum it up, surprise.
The group category’s
first place definitely hit the mark with their vocal sound effects, or should it
be called ventriloquism, and neat moves that played along to the sounds and
music. It was fresh, exciting and unexpected in a brilliant way.
When their performance
came on, we knew straightaway that we were not going to stand a chance against
them. And so with the results we’ve gotten, it’s the best that we could’ve
wanted.

your ardent support, for those of you who came down to watch, to vote, those of
you who even came armed with chocolates, those of you who texted us before the
performance, after the performance, after the winners were announced, those of
you who stuck post-its over our faces…
Salubrest, let’s not
let this be the last performance.
